CERAMIDE

Ceramide are the main component of the outermost layer of our skin: along with cholesterol and saturated fatty acids, ceramides create a water-impermeable, protective layer to prevent excessive water loss due to evaporation. Ceramides are a crucial component in maintaining skin’s moisture barrier function. Dry, irritated, aging, and sensitive skin often lacks ceramides. As a result, the skin’s protective barrier is compromised and becomes more susceptible to environmental factors, changes of season, and other irritants.
